Car Hybrid Cost

Why is it if there is such a push for companies and consumers to go green, that the government does not offer some sort of subsidy package on products to be made more environmentally friendly. I was recently reading a 2008 Toyota Prius review and while I liked everything that it had to offer, especially of course the gas mileage, I was a little taken aback with the price. I suppose though what you save on gas for the first couple of years will help with the bottom line and soon it will pay for itself. I just think it would be nice for a little help on the going-green campaign.
